Ramon Magsaysay was the 3rd President of the Philippines. The Ramon Magsaysay
Award was established in 1957 to honor the late President and to promote his example
of service to the people, integrity and democratic practical idealism. Each year,
Asian individuals and organizations are chosen for the Award who have helped others
generously without expecting recognition while excelling in one of the five following
fields: government service; public service; community leadership; journalism,
literature, and creative communication arts; peace and international understanding.
